About this event
A two part workshop on two consecutive Saturday mornings: 23rd and 30th January 2027 at my studio in Mettingham. Each session will be held at NR351TD from 10am to 12.30. Places are limited to 6 people.
Two x Half Day - Seated Figurative workshops.
£95 (two sessions - includes all materials)
Ideal for making a seated or lying down yoga sculpture, a wine lover wrapped around a bottle, a fisherman or guitar player to sit on the mantlepiece, seated horse, dog, cat etc. Let your imagination run wild!
Morning One: 23 January
Start 10am to 12.30.
1. Make armature. I will take you through the wire bending process while you record the dimensions and create your own pose.
2. Wrap the armature in foil. Building in some of the basic shape.
3. Cover the armature in air dry, reinforced clay. Build in detail including hair and any props / hats etc.
4. Leave to dry. It will crack as the clay shrinks around the armature (we sort this out in the second clay coating on Day 2).
Leave sculpture with me over the next week to dry.
Morning Two: 30 January
10am till 12.30.
1. Revisit clay layers. Fill cracks with hardener slip (be warned - there will be several!)
2. Paint liberally with clay hardener. Leave to dry.
3. Coat with a bonding agent. 1 to 2 layers. Allow to dry.
4. Apply a kiss of bronze gilt.
Ta da!
Take your wonderful sculpture home carefully. It will cure fully over the next 2 weeks. The Powertex gives it a very secure coating once fully cured. It is for indoor display only.
In advance of Day 1, please decide on the pose you'd like to make and collect pictures to support your idea. You can message me your ideas for advice on 07947585654 if you would like. 😊
Please bring a pair of long nose pliers to make the armature and wear clothes you don't mind getting clay and Powertex on!
Thanks so much for your interest. I can't wait to share my methodology with you.
